    Mapping the Early Childhood Gut across Ancestry, Geography and Environment

    This project seeks to create a multi-omic map of the gut in infants and children  <18 years old to understand how gut development at a single cell level is shaped by ancestry and the environment.  Gut development will be mapped across populations with diverse ancestry and geography, at single cell resolution, and with linked contextual data of tissue morphology, genetic background, social determinants of health and environmental exposures.

  1. Mississippi Base Pair Consortium (MBPC), Phil Hardin Foundation of Mississippi, $540,000. Leadership team - Stephen Stray, MBPC Coordinator, Dr. Sydney Murphy, and Dr. Rob Rockhold.

    The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) was recently awarded a two-year, $540,000 grant from the Phil Hardin Foundation of Mississippi to expand the long-standing UMMC-Jackson Public School District Base Pair biomedical research mentorship program, as the Mississippi Base Pair Consortium (MBPC). The Hardin Foundation award will allow UMMC to promote the Base Pair model for development of research mentorship programs at five additional Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, including Delta State University, Jackson State University, Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi and the University of Southern Mississippi.
